Waste that causes potential threats to public health or the environment is called Hazardous Waste. In the United States, the treatment, storage and disposal of hazardous waste is regulated under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).
Under RCRA in 40 CFR 261, hazardous waste is categorized into two: characteristic wastes and listed wastes. The general categories of hazardous waste include universal wastes like batteries containing lithium, device containing mercury and fluorescent bulbs. Household Hazardous waste includes solvents and paints, pesticides, Aerosols, cleaning agents and refrigerant-containing appliances.

Disposal of hazardous waste include a lot of challenges as majority of them are non-biodegradable. Many hazardous wastes could be recycled. The commonly used treatment for disposal of hazardous waste is cement-based solidification and stabilization. There is no specific scientific background needed for attending this course, only limited experience with wastes and their properties.

Instructor Profile:

Mohamed Tash, Ph.D., is currently an environmental manager, Dr. Tash has extensive experience in environment, health, safety and quality operations, auditing, management, in the oil and gas industries.

Dr. Tash specializes in speaking and consulting in environmental and safety technical topics like environmental impact assessment, environmental management system, air pollution and chemical safety.

Tash works with several international funding agencies like World Bank and European investment bank for assessing different projects funded by these organizations. Since oil and gas projects have different complexities and introduce several environmental and safety risks , Dr. Tash is a team leader for preparation, execution and follow-up of several environmental impact assessments of different oil and gas projects at Egypt and Middle East. Tash has several research projects concerned with environmental management , pollution control and energy management.

Dr Tash received his doctorate of environmental science from Ain shams university in Egypt, also he is certified with several professional certificates in Health, Safety and environment such as NEBOSH –UK, environmental professional engineer from American University in Cairo, Certified Auditor for HSE management system from DNV.
