This webinar gives an outline of the primary risks and challenges that your staff and contracted personnel confront, while working with electrical sources at the worksites. Participants will develop an understanding of the requirements of OSHA Sub Part "S" and NFPA, 70E and will be able to identify and reduce or eliminate electrical safety hazards in their workplace. In addition, participants will gain knowledge regarding energy sources including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, chemical, thermal or other sources in machines and equipment that could be hazardous to workers. During the servicing and maintenance of machines and equipment, the unexpected startup or release of stored energy could cause injury to employees.

Why Should you Attend:
To understand the issues regarding electrical safety in the workplace, key electrical terms which are essential to understand and meet the requirements of key electrical safety standards; i.e. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.331-.335, NFPA 70E, NEC (NFPA 70), define and differentiate between qualified and unqualified persons under OSHA, Sub Part S. and the training requirements for each. Describe the intent of an Electrical Safety Program and list the essential elements of an effective program.

Use a "Status Check" survey to assess the facilities of electrical safety program and the necessary strategies for improvement. Workers servicing or maintaining machines or equipment could get seriously injured or killed if hazardous energy is not properly controlled. Injuries resulting from the failure to control hazardous energy during maintenance activities can be serious or fatal! Injuries may include electrocution, burns, crushing, cutting, lacerating, amputating, or fracturing body parts.

Objectives of the Presentation:
Educating participants on the types of electrical hazards to personnel and describe the nature of the hazards related to: Electric shocks, arcs and blasts, fault current and potential difference, electrical safety in industrial plants, list the characteristics of an arc flash hazard, list the characteristics of an arc blast hazard, explain how other injury hazards are related to shock, flash, and blast. To inform craft workers, electricians, machine operators, and laborers who are among the three million workers that service equipment routinely and face the greatest risk of injury. Workers injured on the job from exposure to hazardous energy lose an average of 24 workdays for recuperation.
