Ethics is much more than just “the law.” Therapists regularly encounter ethical dilemmas that are not as clearly defined, and they must be informed in order to make sound decisions.

During this webinar participants will examine the role of therapeutic power and its resulting dynamics in therapy. Dr. Patterson discusses professional boundaries during her presentation, focusing on the importance of therapists and counselors keeping themselves safe ethically and legally. The webinar also addresses self-care, including professionalism and the implications when self-care is lacking.

Your Presenter:
FRANCES PATTERSON, PhD, LADAC, MAC, BCPC, CCJAS, QSAP, QCS, is a licensed alcohol and drug counselor in Tennessee, and a Master Addictions Counselor and Qualified Substance Abuse Professional through the National Association of Addictions Professionals (NAADAC). She holds a certification as a Criminal Justice Addictions Specialist and is a board certified professional counselor with the American Psychotherapy Association. Dr. Patterson is a Certified Clinical Supervisor in the State of Tennessee and oral examiner for A&D licensure. She has worked as a clinician and program administrator in treatment programs in Virginia and Tennessee for 25 years. Dr. Patterson is owner of Footprints Consulting Services, LLC in Nashville, Tennessee. She provides program consultation, professional training, clinical supervision, and client education and assessment. She is the chair of NAADAC's clinical issues committee and member of the ethics committee, member of the NAADAC Trainers Academy, and NAADAC approved trainer. 

In 2005, Dr. Patterson was honored with the Lifetime Achievement award by Tennessee Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors and in 2006 she received the Mel Schulstad award, NAADAC's national Professional of the Year award. She has conducted professional training locally, statewide, and nationally for more than 15 years on addictions, mental health, and professional counseling issues to a variety of disciplines. She is recently published in Addiction Professional magazine. She is well known for her professionalism, sense of humor, and ability to engage her audience in the topics she presents.
