The Dodd-Frank Act, Section 1502 and the pursuant Securities and Exchange Commission Rule have engendered significant activity and uncertainty in industry as companies seek to clarify their obligations and gain compliance evidence from their supply chains. The European Union has been considering how to respond in a way which reinforces the positives – avoiding the use of conflict-implicated minerals, while minimising the negatives – companies turning away from the DRC region entirely and seeking to source minerals elsewhere. In this webinar we will review the current status of European policy deliberations and touch on similar developments elsewhere in the world. Doing “the right thing” by producers when we buy our fairly-traded coffee, chocolate or bananas is one thing – but how would we feel if a similar approach were applied to our business purchasing too?
