Being a teen hasn’t changed much, but the technology for self-expression and connection has. ‘Selfies’ and ‘self-image’ are concepts integral to the way they live their lives.

The latest Australian study on the issue of sexting (by LaTrobe University in 2014) found that 26 per cent of 16-18 year-olds reported having sent a sexually explicit photo of themselves.

‘Sexting’, an adult-devised term, is the taking, sending or sharing of provocative or sexual images, photos, messages or videos generally using a mobile phone and/or the internet. This act is seen by young people as a common way to heave relationships in a fun and flirty way. Yet parents identify access to inappropriate content as the number one risk for their children online.

This webinar will improve parents understandings of youth relationships and how they manifest in online environments; and explore the best ways to support young people to develop healthy, consensual, equal and respectful relationships.
