A successful Project Manager must simultaneously manage the six basic elements of a project: scope, resources, schedule, budget, quality and safety. These elements are interrelated and must be managed together if the project and the project manager are to be successful.
The textbook definitions of this effort are fairly easy to understand. However, knowledge and application are often very hard to align. This course is an introduction to the “Real World of Project Management” and focuses primarily on lessons learned by an experienced project manager in the successful (and sometimes not so successful) completion of capital projects in the regulated industries of pharmaceutical and biotech manufacturing.
- Scope: Project size, goals, requirements, change management
- Resources: People, equipment, material
- Schedule: Task durations, dependencies, critical path
- Budget: Costs, contingencies, profit
- Quality: Verification, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs
- Safety: Construction, Installation, Personnel and Product
